Have Microsoft made a faulty to acquire Nokia?

It is reported that Microsoft has regretted to have acquired Nokia since 2013. Afterwards, it has been proved that this deal was totally a failure and not worthy at all.

In the republished financial reports last week, Microsoft revealed that the revenue of mobile phone hardware department was 1.4 billion dollars. However, according to the report of Verge, the relative cost was even 4 million dollars higher than the revenue. What’s more, once Microsoft sells one mobile phone, it will lose $0.12 per share regardless of the expense of marketing and research.

Microsoft focuses on low-end mobile phone market, so it is not surprised it has taken a beating. Actually Microsoft had paid 5.46 billion dollars in the part of goodwill evaluation. Microsoft has warned the value of this part may never come true. That is to say, loss of billions of dollars will be proposed in the future.

It is reported that Microsoft had ever taken measures like this and proposed the loss expense of 6.2billion dollars in 2012. The CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella claimed his worry about the deficit of mobile phone department. And he implied that more measures would be taken to cut the cost.

Otherwise, LG seems to have returned to the team of Microsoft. And the code name of Windows mobile phone which is on researching is VB820. That meant LG has terminated the cooperation relationship with Google.

Lumia 640∕640XL of Microsoft Will Retail with a Starting Point of 1299 Yuan

Although genuine products of Lumia 640 and 640XL have a slow-speed delivery, there is no doubt that it will enter Chinese market this month. Presently these two kinds of mobile phones have appeared offline and it sells indeed as the previous rumors 1299 Yuan and 1899 Yuan. Compared with same grade Android smartphones, they two seem lack some competitiveness.

Exposure of retail price

As the new type mobile phones which was launched in MWC, genuine products of Lumia 640 appeared in the advance booking page of SUNING with the price of 1299 Yuan and it supplied memory card, portable power and mobile phone housing as the freebie. But afterwards relevant information was deleted. With the selling time of Lumia 640 approaching, online stores from GOME expose the price of Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, which are 1299 Yuan and 1899 Yuan. The price is strongly aligned with the previous information online.

Nowadays these two kinds of new Microsoft mobile phones appeared in offline stores again. Lumia 640 will support dual SIM dual standby, dual 4G Networks, Cortana Secretary and original Office application. And it indeed sells at 1299 Yuan in the store.as for higher end Lumia 640 XL with the price of 1899 Yuan is even equipped with 13 megapixels apart from above functions.

Being on sale by the end of month

What is worth noticing is that Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are high version. In other words, they support dual SIM dual standby and dual 4G Networks. Inner staffs’ files showed that genuine versions will support double-clicking. Nevertheless these two new mobile phones don’t well in supporting frequency and format. For example, they don’t support china telecom FDD mode. Besides, mobile frequency also has some weakness.

2015 Reports of IDC Forecast about Worldwide Tablets Shipments

According to the first year-over-year decline in worldwide tablet shipments in the fourth quarter of 2014, IDC has lessened its five year forecast for the product diversity. The shipments of tablets around the world are expected to reach 234.5 million in 2015, a tiny year-over-year increase of 2.1% from 2014. Although the promising future has been limited, IDC still expects minute growth for the market in the next several years as demand in the commercial sector growth, and as Microsoft slowly gains a foothold.

"Regardless of the growing popularity of phablets, there still remains a portion of the market that wants to use a larger device so they can tailor their experience to the appropriate screen size," said Jitesh Ubrani, Senior Research Analyst, Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. "At the same time, a growing number of manufacturers who are falling behind small tablets are planning reducing prices and adopting features like voice calling to appeal to consumers to buy their products against competing phablets. And then the competition between phablets and voice-capable tablets will be more dynamic and interesting."

As for platforms, Android will remain first, with nearly two-thirds of the market share over the course of the forecast. Once-upon-a-time-leader iOS is likely the weakest link. IDC expects its volume share of the market will decline in 2015, reaching levels below that of the past three years. In spite of modest adoption up to now, windows is expected to obtain significant share over the course of the forecast, growing from 5.1% in 2014 to 14.1% in 2019.

"Microsoft is doing plenty of good things right now and we are quite confident that the launch of Windows 10 later this year will not only have a significant effect on Microsoft's share of the market, but on the industry as a whole," said Jean Philippe Bouchard, Research Director, Tablets. "There is an appetite for a platform that can provide a productivity experience, and we believe Microsoft is well prepared to grasp some of that demand."
