Google Glasses Annual Sales Forecast

In January of this year, Google stopped selling its first-generation Google glasses and shut down the related programs. Google said glasses will be separated from the mysterious Google X research lab. And Ivy Ross would go on managing this team. At the same time, the CEO of smart home manufacturer NEST Labs will be arranged to supervising this project. The chairman of Google Eric Schmidt said it would go on doing research and development on Google smart glasses.

Before we start, let’s talk about what Google Glass is (and what it isn’t). Google Glass is a small device tacked onto a pair of glasses. It’s a bit dorky looking and some people are already saying that anyone wearing Google Glass is a, well, it’s not a nice word. Anyway, I think they’re cool. Google Glass lets you record what you’re seeing, view a heads-up display of information (more apps coming out every day it seems) and has a touch pad on the right side of the glasses. That touch screen is one of the ways you take control your Glass. The other way is by verbal commands like “OK Glass” and that sort of thing.

All changes aroused variety of imaginations from common people, most of them hold the view whether Google will quit this kind of smart glasses or not. However, Eric Schmidt said to American media, “This project will be in the charge of Tony Fadell to be well- fit for users.”

Eric Schmidt stated, “For Google, Google smart glasses are a large and basal project. We’ve suspended exploring it, and some media consider we’ve given up all programs. It is a faulty thought indeed. Google is really taking a risk, but some changes can’t prove that we’ve decided to stop this project.”

Schmidt goes on explaining, “Google glasses are a long-run project. Now I don’t get around by car. But it doesn’t mean this project is disappointing. And it needs time in developing.”

Because Google glasses can take pictures and record video stealthily so it is considered having invaded people’s privacy. As a matter of fact, Google glasses are prohibited using in many public occasions, such as some bars and canteens. Accordingly Google glasses are even called Glassholes.

Google is still quite interested in the potential market of wearable devices. It is predicted by IDC last year that the shipment of wearable devices increases by 78% every year, which will be 0.112 billion in 2018. On the contrast, the shipment of smartphones will be 19 billion in 2018.

It is reported that Google is still developing the second-generation smart glasses, which will be cheaper and more powerful in endurance and sound effect. At the same time, its displaying technology will be better. To well coordinate with society and not be viewed as heterogeneous species. The appearance of Google glasses will be more closed to ordinary glasses.
