How Will MI Access to International Markets

According to the data from IDC, in the fourth quarter of last year Mi occupied 4% market shares in India. The leader Samsung had 22% market share in India and Micromax, Intex and Lavel these Indian local mobile phone brand all ranked behind the Samsung.

Lei Jun, the founder of MI, not just obtained a large group of MI fans but got investment from Indian tycoon Ratan Tata during this trip to India.

Ratan Tata had been the leader of Tata Corporation after retiring since 2012, he chosen to be a venture capital investor and personally invested to MI.

As Apple and Samsung still controlled most of American mobile phone market, it is quite a difficult step to develop India as the second largest market beside China to realize the goal of being top one around the world. Hugo Barra the vice president of MI global market even predicted the prospects of MI in India may surpass China. What’s more, the investment from Ratan Tata will also be a great support to help MI stand firm in India, an important battle ground in the way of internationalization.

Not long ago, MI held a press conference in the Indian capital New Deli and launched Mi4i, which could support six languages and sold 12999 rubles ($205).

Lei Jun said the reason why he chose Indian market was that the large scale of Indian market. Apart from China, there only remained India which had over 1 billion people around the world. The economy of India is at an early stage and the mobile phone market is still relatively mild when compared with China which has been in fierce homogeneity competition. Consequently MI selected India as the first stop of internationalization.

Actually since last year the hot scene of MI had reoccurred in India as China. One year passed, MI had thought further after starting up business in India.

Lei Jun said MI would aim for middle-to-low-range products in Indian markets. As for channels, MI has stopped cooperation with the largest e-commerce Flipkart and acclaimed to sign contract with Amazon, Snapdeal.

To support the development of MI in India, Lei Jun has made a long-run project. Besides, MI even planned to open experiencing stores in India, constructed research team and organized the process chain and production to build an eco-system and brand awareness.
