Samsung Has Lost Its Throne Of Indian Smartphone Sales
Champion
Samsung has lost its place in Indian market
of being the largest smartphone manufacturer (counting by sales volume). In the
fourth quarter of 2014, the sales volume of this Korean smartphone manufacturer
in India was exceeded by the local cheap brand Micromas.
According to the data coming out from market
research group Canalys, in the fourth quarter last year, Samsung smartphone
shipment just reached 20% of Indian market share, and Micromax has reached 22%
in contrast.
In the fourth quarter of last year, Indian
smartphone market grew with a high speed, and the whole shipment has reached
21.6 million, which made a 90% growth to the earlier year. As providing low
price but with basic function smartphones, local brands like Micromax are very
attractive for the new smartphone buyers.
According to estimation of Canalys, mobile
phones that with a selling price lower than 100 dollars have accounted 23% in
the fourth quarter of last year’s smartphone shipment. For a long time, two hot
smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and Micromax have been in fierce
competition of Indian market’s sales champion. They used the different
valuations from different research groups. And from the searching result of
Counterpoint, Samsung has lost its champion place in Indian market as early as
the second quarter of 2014.
